My name is Scott Fannen.
I live and work in the Polish capital city Warsaw (Warszawa).
I grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and despite many years away, I am still 100% Kiwi. If you ever get the chance to visit, it's every part as beautiful as seen in the Lord of the Rings, with considerably fewer monsters and no dangerous jewellery.
After a move to London which I initially thought would be the traditional NZer's 2-3 years, I ended up staying there for over a decade. Despite a love/hate relationship with London, I made the most of my stay there and it's certainly a great city to be young, single and a traveller. It's one of the world's major cities and there's so much to see and do - provided you're not expecting great weather.
Speaking of travel, I'd heartily recommend my favourites (so far): Rome, Barcelona, Krakow, Paris, Prague, Madrid (probably in that order). If you're doing a quick European trip, make sure you check out the discount airlines - if you book early (and wisely) you can be transported around Europe for next to nothing (if you travel light).
A couple of years ago I moved to Warsaw, my lovely wife's home city. It's not usually up near the top of most tourists destination lists, but it's a city full of history (often well hidden as it has been destroyed and rebuilt - especially after World War II) and unlike a lot a European cities it's not preserved in amber - it's dynamic as hell and outside London it's probably one of the main cities in Europe for development. You might be surprised...even if (or especially if) you visited years ago.
I work in the support side of IT - in London I was working for one of the world's largest newspapers. Now I'm doing support work for a Swedish-based multi-national.
Beyond travel, I'm a bit geeky (I love Macs, my iPhone, maps, transportation - not quite an anorak - and the news) and I'm distinctly liberal in outlook (except maybe financially). I've also taken to learning from and contributing to Wikipedia of late - such a great resource.
